FAQ's

2.01 How do I begin playing?

Download the PokerJoint software. Launch the software by double-clicking on the palm tree icon on your desktop. You will be taken to the PokerJoint Lobby screen where the games and tables are listed. Select a Game by clicking the appropriate tab on the left-hand side of the Lobby screen, choose a table from the list, and double-click on the table name. Select a seat by clicking where it says Sit Down. Select how much you would like to take to the table in chips and click OK. You will then be taken to your seat to enjoy the games and begin playing!

2.02 How do I select the type of game?

From the PokerJointLobby, you will see the list of games at the left-hand side. Click on the game you would like to play.

2.03 I am just learning poker. Where can I play for free before I begin playing for real money?

In order to play the free money tables, simply go to the lobby screen. It is the screen that will open once you have logged in successfully. Click on the top tabs to choose which game you would like to play, ex. Omaha. Then, you will see a list of current games, and if you use the scroll bar and move down to the bottom of the list you will see a number of games available on the play money tables. Double click on one of those listed games and you will be brought to the table. If there is a vacant seat at the table you will see a chair that says -sit down'. Click on the chair and you will be prompted to take a seat. In the Options menu, be sure you don't have 'hide play money tables' checked.

Enjoy the games!

2.04 Do you charge players to sit at the real money tables? How does PokerJointmake money?

Real money tables are raked according to our rake schedule. All transactions are in US dollars. PokerJoint has a "no flop - no drop" rake policy.

2.05 What do I do if the table I have chosen has no available seats?

If you get to a table and there are no seats available, there will be a button on the lower left that says Waiting List. Click on this button and you will be asked if you wish to be on a list for that particular table or the first available table of that game type and stakes level with your selected number of players. In the PokerJointLobby, on the right of your screen, there will be a list of players both playing and waiting for the table you have selected. When you click on "Join" in the waiting list sign-up, your name will be added to the bottom of the waiting list. As seats become available, your name will move up until it is your turn and you are automatically notified of the available seat.

2.06 Why was I called to a table when there wasn?t the minimum number of players that I specified when I signed up for the waiting list?

Although there may be fewer players present at the table when you arrive than what you had designated as your minimum, there were additional players being called to the table along with you. Please be aware that the PokerJointsoftware includes in your minimum player specification, the number of players sitting down, players called from the Waiting List, and the players who are in transit. When these additional players were called for, they may have decided to decline the seat opening after accepting the seat initially, resulting in the lesser number present at the table.

2.07 I lost my seat at the table because my chips never arrived at my new table. What happened?

When you accept a seat and sit down, you will need to have sufficient funds to secure the seat or it will be offered to the next person on the wait list after a short period of time. To avoid this problem, make sure to leave some of your money in your available Cashier balance, so there is at least enough to satisfy a minimum buy-in at another table. Then if you decide you want to play at another table you will be able to make the minimum buy-in at the new table without having to wait for your chips from the table you left.

If you are a three-table player, please note that you will not be able to buy-in at a new (fourth) table until the hand at the table you exited has concluded. At no time will you be able to have funds at four tables.

2.08 Why am I removed from all waiting lists when I decline to take a seat at a specific table?

If you join a list indicating that you will take the first available table at a specific limit, and then decline to take the seat at the table you are called to, you will be removed from the general waiting list. The server assumes you have opted to take an open seat at another table, or that you no longer require a table. The best way to avoid the problem is to join the wait list of each table specifically (by table name), rather than the first table available at a certain stakes level. This way, when you decline a seat, it will only affect the specific table and not remove you from the other lists as well.

2.09 How can I set up my screen to play two or three tables at once?

It is very easy to set up simultaneous 2 or 3-table play. While you are seated at one table, simply click the view lobby screen, which will bring up the lobby screen in a separate window. You may then select a second and third table to begin your two or three-table play.

Please note that you need to offset the 2-3 screens, which can be done by clicking the top blue bar and dragging the tables so that they do not directly overlap. Otherwise it is impractical to play 2-3 tables. Please ensure that you keep up to the pace of both games so as not to disrupt the fluidity of the games.

This is the 2 and 3-table section from the new account agreement:

If you choose to play 2 or 3 tables at once, you agree it is done solely at your risk. The screens changing instantaneously back and forth, and this may cause you to accidentally carry out an unintended action, and you agree that these actions or mis-actions are entirely your responsibility.

Enjoy the action!

3.01 How do I bring more chips to the table without leaving my seat?

It is very simple to add chips to your stack when already seated in a game. Simply wait until you are no longer actively involved in a hand and then click on the Dealer Chip Tray at your table or the "$" icon in the top left corner of the table screen. A pop up window will allow you to select the amount of your choice from your remaining available balance.

3.02 How can I check the outcome of a hand I was in?

For reviewing purposes, you can request a transcript of your most recent 100 hands played. This feature can be accessed in the Options menu or through the Dealer Chip Tray.

You may request a specific hand or a string of hands up to your last 100. You will need to know the exact game number for the former. Both the current and previous game number are displayed in the upper right corner of the Table Screen.

3.03 Do you keep any statistics for my play on my account?

No, we keep only your flop % and the number of hands you have played. You may track and save your own statistics click on the "%" button in the top left corner of the table screen to display the Session Statistics window which provides you with your live online playing statistics. For all the details of the stats feature.

3.04 Where are my Player Notes?

If you are connected from a different computer than you usually use, or if you are saving notes on two different computers, they will only appear on the computer that they were originally saved on. You will be able to take them with you, but you will have to go into your PokerJointfolder and save to disk the file that reads 'playernotes.txt'. If you import that file to both computers each time you make notes you will have your complete set of notes available on whichever computer you use.

3.05 I can't remember my password and I no longer have access to the e-mail address that I registered on my account. How can I gain access to my account again?

If you are no longer able to access the e-mail address on your account, please send your password request to us, including your full mailing address, the first and last four digits on a credit card, FirePay or NETeller account that you have used to fund the account. We require this information as a security measure.

3.06 I have not logged into my PokerJointaccount for a long time and it says that it is 'Unable to Validate ID' when I try to log in.

If your account was a play money account and you have not accessed it in over 3 months it will have been automatically deleted from our system due to inactivity.

Please create a new one by using the 'Create New Account' button.

3.07 The auto-upgrade is not working. Why?

In some cases, the auto-upgrading will not work. This can be due to local caching and firewall issues which prevent our software from properly upgrading itself. The easiest way to deal with this is to install an entire new version, available by clicking this link: xxxxxxx. Click on the PokerJointPokerSetup.exe hyperlink to begin the process. Choose 'Run Program From Its Current Location', open file and save it to your computer. This will update your software to the latest version.

3.08 Can I make the game screen fill the entire computer monitor?

You certainly can. What you will need to do is adjust your screen settings using the instructions below:

Changing Screen resolution:

  1. Go to your desktop and double-click "My Computer"
  2. Double-click "Control Panel"
  3. Double-click "Display"
  4. Choose the "Settings" tab along the top.
  5. Adjust your "Screen Area" (resolution) to 800x600.
  6. Adjust your "Colors" to "High Color (16 bit)".
  7. Press OK.
  8. Try running PokerJoint again

3.09 Why can't I see my cards, the screen is black and my cards appear as arrows?

This is a graphics conflict that will likely be resolved by deselecting the Optimize Graphics function in the Options menu in the PokerJointLobby.

If the de-selecting Optimize Graphics does not work, simply close down the PokerJoint software and then log back in.

3.10 I don't seem to have any sound when I play at the tables. What is wrong?

First, please ensure that your computer speakers are turned on. If so, check to see that you have your sounds selected in the Options menu in the Lobby.

3.11 Do you have an Apple MAC version?

We do not have a version of our software specifically designed for the MAC. However, many of our players successfully play problem free by using a PC emulator. Our understanding is that both SoftWindows and VirtualPC work very well with our software.

3.12 Why are you not responding to my questions when I e-mail Support?

This is my third e-mail with no response from Support. PokerJointSupport typically responds to all email inquiries within 5 minutes.

If you find you are not receiving a timely response, it is likely that your ISP is blocking emails sent from support@pokerjoint.com. Please try registering an alternative email address on your PokerJointaccount.

6.01 If I want to leave a tournament before it starts, what happens to the buy-in I paid?

If you leave the table before the tournament begins, your funds will be returned to your account balance automatically.

6.02 Can I play two tournaments at one time?

Although players may play two ring games at once, or one ring game and one tournament, they cannot play two tournaments at once. In order to maintain the proper pace of play and a fair playing environment for all players, players cannot engage in two tournaments as the pace of the tournaments becomes too fast in the last levels to be conducive to two-table play.

6.03 I have played in lots of tournaments. How come my points are not accumulating very quickly?

The points accruing in your pending credit portion of your account (where bonuses and fees are put for future credit) are calculated on a 1 point per raked game basis for cash games. For tournaments, you will build points at a rate of 1 point per $1 of fee paid in any tournament played. Points will not build at the same rate as they do in the cash games.

7.01 How can I be sure that players are not colluding when I play in PokerJoint?

Whether poker is played in a brick and mortar environment or online, the possibility of collusion exists. Collusion occurs when two or more players on the same table work together as a team, unfairly sharing knowledge of each other's cards, and betting with this knowledge in order to maximize their mutual profit. Collusion destroys the integrity of any poker game. Any player caught attempting to collude at PokerJoint will be permanently banned from our games.

Our Security Department is very aware of the danger collusion presents to the integrity of the games, and accordingly we have adopted several measures to help identify and eliminate such abuses.

Specifically, our Security Department makes use of the following preventative measures:
  1. Tracking IP addresses and monitoring play - We monitor and investigate players who play on the same table with frequency.
  2. Player trapping monitoring - Historical hands are reviewed and if a weak hand was involved with raising and re-raising, it is flagged and forwarded to Security.
  3. Player reports - If any player reports a suspicious hand, it is thoroughly reviewed by our Security Department. Security will also review the historical hands of the players involved. It is this ability to review previous hands that gives us the ability to combat collusion better than a brick and mortar card room.

There are additional features not mentioned above, given that making such measures public would reduce their effectiveness.

If you have any questions with regard to any integrity or security issues, please do not hesitate to contact us.

7.02 I have heard that people can hack into the system and see my cards. How can I be sure this isn't happening when I play in PokerJoint?

PokerJoint offers our clients world class security against hackers. All of the communications between the PokerJoint server and the client program running on your computer are encrypted using the internationally accepted industry standard SSLv3/TLSv1 encryption algorithm. What this means is that your cards, your name, your address, your credit card number, your password, and any other information that is transmitted between players' computers and our server is protected with the same level of security that a bank would use. 'Packet-sniffing', an effort to intercept and interpret the information exchanged between the two points, has been thoroughly addressed by our technical design team and is prevented using the most advanced deterrents available today.

Furthermore, each player's cards are sent exclusively to that particular player's computer. No computer other than yours receives the datastream of your hidden cards, thus preventing an opponent from hacking the client software to determine your cards.

7.03 I have been playing at a table and it seems that another player there knew what cards would come next. Is this possible?

No deck of cards in any brick and mortar card room is ever shuffled as well and thoroughly as we shuffle our cards. Each game, the deck is shuffled 10 times with each shuffle moving each card somewhere between 1 and 51 times throughout the deck (10 passes at Knuth's full shuffle algorithm). There is no bias towards any card, any card patterns, or seats at the table. In fact, during our testing we shuffled more than 21 million decks of cards and we did not find a single deck that was shuffled the same way as another deck; each one turned out to be shuffled in a completely unique manner. For a more complete description about why we shuffle this way, see RNG/shuffling. The algorithm used is only part of a good shuffling solution. The random number generator used during the shuffling process is even more important. It needs to be based on unpredictable events and it needs to have a large enough seed and a large enough entropy pool to make it impossible for any player to have an advantage over the other players. Our random number generator is based on several independent non-predictable entropy sources that continue to modify the generator sequence in real time. Our random number generator is not reseeded for every hand using the time of day; any crypotologist would tell you that method is simply far too predictable to offer any security. We have a page devoted to our random number generator that details how this process is employed at PokerJoint.

In our own research, extensive distribution tables were analyzed to ensure the shuffling method is of the highest standard and resulted in a random shuffle.

Furthermore, we are pleased to provide our clients with an independent third party review of our shuffling.? We engage the services of a?Big Four accounting firm to review our card shuffling.?
